August 2008 -- I

Astrid with her Girl Scouts at Sierra Rose Farms, where they learned about and visited miniature horses. This was the first horse to take an interest in Astrid. He went straight to her, and worked his way up from her knees to nuzzling her tummy.

In the miniature horse pen, Astrid was very popular. Everyone wanted to check her out. She was nuzzled and groomed and shown much horse affection, in spite of bopping a couple of them on the nose. (This horse farm has just started a program to work with special needs kids, and the horses clearly have a talent for that.)

Ursula really enjoyed her time with the horses too.

The big event of the day! Yes, this is the first egg (snapped right at the moment Ursula discovered it -- I had noticed it in the nest box so I was prepared).
